MAURIZIO DI IORIO
Where are you from? Where do you live?
Pescara, Italy.
How old are you?
47, but I’m a young photographer :), I’ve been taking photographs from less than two years.
How do you pay your bills? Are you working as a professional photographer?
I pay my bills with what I’ve been paid after I’ve sold my earlier activity. However, I’ve since worked as a professional photographer.
What cameras do you use?
Only analog: Contax G2, Canon EOS30, Rollei B35, Yashica T4.
Any photographer or artist inspiring you?
William Eggleston, Ryan McGinley and Juergen Teller. Among the up-and-coming, surely Lukasz Wierzbowski.
What/who do you enjoy to shoot the most?
Female subjects, and not only for an aesthetic preference. I find that in women it’s harder to set apart dark and bright sides. This makes them more interesting than male subjects.
Do you believe in god?
NO. But I also believe that philistinism makes everything obtuse and produces the ugly, barren scenery we live in.
What do you drink on a night out?
Daiquiri.
Do you like dancing?
No. Girls who dance, though, usually are nice to watch; men, much less.
What’s your favourite first name?
Serena. It comes from the Latin “serenus”, which means “limpid, cloudless”. Fantastic, isn’t it?
Are you a fashion addicted?
I like beautiful things, but I’m not addicted to them.
What’s your favourite tv series?
The Sopranos, Mad Men.
Recommend us a book.
For those who haven’t read it, Lunar Park by Bret Easton Ellis. My fondness for this author aside, I consider it one of the best novels of the last years.
What’s the country of your dreams?
I don’t have a country in particular but if I had the opportunity, I’d move to London.
Have you ever been to Iceland?
No.
