aurora’s special guest for interview n.100
Where are you from? Where do you live?
I was born in Switzerland but I’ve been living in Italy since I was a kid.
How old are you?
How do you pay your bills? Are you working as a professional photographer?
Yes, I am a professional photographer.
What cameras do you use?
I’ve used them all: 35mm, the Pentax 645, a 10X12 large format camera that I’ve loved very much, a Polaroid Image. Now I’m using digital Canon and Hasselblad, analog Nikon and Rolleiflex. Frequently, I use non autofocus lenses on digital camera bodies.
Any photographer or artist inspiring you?
When I was a young photographer, I was inspired by great masters: William Klein, Robert Frank, Ugo Mulas, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Lee Friedlander, to mention a few.
Nowadays I get inspiration from my own thoughts.
What/who do you enjoy to shoot the most?
People, especially women.
Even if I’m realizing that photography is itself the real subject of my work: its ambiguity, its ability to transform the meaning of things, of everything, and make them symbolic.
Do you believe in god?
In my own way.
What do you drink on a night out?
Several gin and tonics.
Do you like dancing?
Yes, I do.
What’s your favorite first name?
My daughters’ names: Diana and Gia.
Are you a fashion addicted?
I love to shoot fashion; personally I would call myself a “style addicted”.
What’s your favorite tv series?
I only watch motor bike’s racing on tv.
Recommend us a book.
Italo Calvino’s bibliography, and “Mémoires d’Hadrien” by Marguerite Yourcenar.
What’s the country of your dreams?
A better Italy.
Have you ever been to Iceland?
What song would you choose for a slideshow of your work?
I’m working on adding experimental contemporary soundtracks to some of my audio-visuals. Authors like Fennesz, Oliver Doerell, Trapist, Matmos.
Ask yourself a question. Tell me your answer (like Marzullo does)
Q: How can you be so good?
A: I really don’t know, I’ve always been like that.
