If you could be anything right now, what would you be?
An Oak tree.
Which book are you reading?
“This is Water” by David Foster Wallace.
Which photographer is teaching you something?
Right now, the photographer that inspires me the most is Viviane Sassen.
Are you working on a particular project right now? Can you tell us something about it?
I just finished my last project, MUTA; it is a serie of photographs that I’ve took around my city, a work that came out after meeting Guido Guidi and his approach to photography. I’ve found very interesting to start a series from what I see around me everyday and to create a direct link to the nature of photography itself, in a way that I didn’t used to do before.
It looks like that you’ve been able to set a very personal style also in fashion and commercial works. It’s fascinating. But how do you approach a fashion set and an afternoon by yourself, wandering with your camera?
Thank you, I really appreciate that you like my style. For the fashion works and stories usually I start with doing some researches involving the client’s idea of the client; after the first step of images’ research, the second one is to look for the right location. Then I draw some ideas and photographs that I would like to shoot. Everything can change during the shooting, because it’s a day working very close to other people (models, stylist, assistant, etc…) and everyone is involved in the process: it is very important to have clear ideas but, at the same time, the freedom to change something and improvise.
Instead shooting my personal project is different, it is more like going around the city searching for things to shoot, or stay in my studio and set it up for the work that I have in mind. I try to work very freely, and usually my series are kept together by a feeling or a mood, more than by some obvious properties.
Where are you living right now, and where are you working the most?
I’m living and working in Cesena, a little city not far from Bologna, between the hills and the sea, where is very present the style of a small town.
