ALAN GRILLO SPINA
Where are you from? Where do you live?
I was born in milan, my parents are from rome, my grandparents from germany and sicily. Right now I’m living in milan again.
How old are you?
27
How do you pay your bills? Are you working as a professional photographer?
Freelancing work, photo assistant and some odd jobs.
What cameras do you use?
For myself I use a small collection of olympus mju’s, an old vivitar reflex with ricoh lens, a folding dacora royal from the 50’s. Can’t wait to put my hands on a seagull bioptical!!
Any photographer or artist inspiring you?
I enjoy a lot of artists especially for their ironic or pure approach: david shrigley, william eggleston, wolfgang tillmans, rinko kawauchi, armin linke, barry mcgee, chris johanson and billions of others. they are all very sofisticated to me.
What/who do you enjoy to shoot the most?
Mainly things I find on my everyday discoveries, but I would say landscapes where I can disappear in.
Do you believe in god?
Yes, he texted me this morning on my mobile, what’s up dog?
What do you drink on a night out?
Beers and sambuca.
Do you like dancing?
When the music takes you away it’s totally good to dance!!!
What’s your favourite first name?
Wouldn’t know right now.
Are you a fashion addicted?
I adore clothes, but am mainly attracted by the handcrafted details rather than tendencies, but maybe I am a bit.
What’s your favourite tv series?
xavier renegade angel and y’all so stupid by Devin Flynn.
Recommend us a book.
For nostalgic reason I’m into chinese thriller books now. So I’d say When Red Is Black by Qiu Xiaolong. The images he describes of shanghai are depressingly awesome.
What’s the country of your dreams?
Japan, its simple complexity keeps me obsessively fascinated.
Have you ever been to Iceland?
Twice! It was actually there that I started taking pictures. I even bought a videocamera before flying over to have some company on the trip.
